All hospitals 100 % smoke-free as ofSmoke Free Jan. 1, 2018

While Waypoint has had a smoke-free campus since 2003, other hospitals across the province have continued to have designated outdoor smoking areas. Starting Jan. 1, 2018 all hospitals must be 100 percent smoke-free under the Smoke Free Ontario Act.

Waypoint has been working with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit to review smoking cessation information for patients while in hospital and upon discharge, as well as workplace cessation strategies to support staff to quit tobacco use. As part of these efforts Waypoint hosted the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario Tobacco Intervention Champions Workshop on Dec. 11, 2017.

Smoke-free signage for staff, visitors and patients is posted across our Waypoint campus and our Midland sites. The signs include information about enforcement including the potential for being fined for having a lit cigarette on Waypoint’s or any hospital property in Ontario. Please do not smoke anywhere at Waypoint. For information about tobacco free living visit the Health Unit’s website at
