Waypoint is proud to announce that Accreditation Canada has awarded the hospital “Accredited with Exemplary Standing.” This is the highest level of achievement a Canadian health care provider can receive from the independent, not-for-profit organization that sets standards for quality and safety in health care. Part of this recognition is based on the hospital meeting all of the 676 standards and criteria it was measured

“Our accreditation result is a testament to the extraordinary effort by talented staff and clinicians, an engaged board of directors and a leadership team dedicated to delivering excellence in mental health care,” said Waypoint President and CEO Carol Lambie. “This distinguished ranking reinforces our position as leaders in mental health care and I applaud everyone at Waypoint for the commitment and dedication to our patients that resulted in this wonderful accomplishment.”

From June 8 to 11, 2015, four surveyors visited the hospital, asking staff questions about how they do their jobs, what policies and processes are in place and how that impacts their day-to-day jobs. They also spoke to patients, families, and community partners about their experiences with the hospital.

The surveyors shared the feedback they heard from staff about the challenges Waypoint continues to face including the ongoing change management and transition issues related to safety and operations in the new Atrium building, the future implementation of the electronic health record and funding concerns.

The strengths highlighted included recognizing the hospital’s dedicated staff for living the mission and values every day, the focus on client-centered care, the commitment to executing the strategic plan, the strong collaboration between partners, the anti-stigma efforts underway, how research is integrated with the clinical programs, how enhancement of employee engagement is on the right track, the strong commitment to and use of the ethics framework and the dedicated and involved board of directors.

We know there are ongoing challenges and recognize the incredible team who continues to provide great care to our patients and clients often under very difficult circumstances. To everyone involved thank you and congratulations.”
