Waypoint welcomes new Psychiatrist-in-Chief

Carol Lambie, Waypoint President and CEO and BettyDr. Jeff Van Impe Valentine, Board Chair are pleased to announce that Dr. Jeff Van Impe has been chosen for the Psychiatrist-in-Chief role effective immediately.

Following an extensive search, the Board approved the appointment of Dr. Van Impe at the January 5, 2017 board meeting. Dr. Van Impe has been supporting the hospital as the Acting Psychiatrist-in-Chief since July.

The Board is pleased to have continuity in this leadership role with Dr. Van Impe’s appointment and is excited that he was the successful candidate. He has developed strong relationships with the medical staff and has been successful in supporting the medical staff recruitment needs in the acting position. Carol and the senior leaders are also looking forward to having Dr. Van Impe join the senior leadership team.

He has extensive experience in forensic mental health having included it in his training prior to joining Waypoint in 2010. He has worked in a variety of programs at the hospital and took on the extra responsibility for leadership as the Medical Director for the Provincial Forensic Programs last April. He has also been the Clinical Director of the ECT program at Waypoint since 2014.

Dr. Van Impe is the lead psychiatrist for the Mental Health Courts in Barrie and Orillia. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor (Adjunct) in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University.

Dr. Van Impe obtained his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Western Ontario in 2005 and his Psychiatric specialty from McMaster University in 2010. He received his subspecialty designation in Forensic Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in September 2016.
