Ontario’s leading expert on senior’s health care toDr Samir Sinha speak at Waypoint’s Annual General Meeting June 2nd

The highly esteemed Dr. Samir K. Sinha will be in Penetanguishene on June 2 as the special guest at Waypoint’s Annual General Meeting.

Dr. Sinha is the Director of Geriatrics at Sinai Health System and the University Health Network in Toronto, and an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He is a Rhodes Scholar who has consulted and advised governments and health care organizations around the world; and is the architect of the Government of Ontario’s Seniors Strategy.

“Waypoint is the lead agency for the North Simcoe Muskoka Specialized Geriatric Services and we have a speciality geriatric psychiatry program,” says Board Chair Betty Valentine. “With the number of seniors in Canada expected to double over the next two decades, we are excited to welcome Dr. Sinha and hear about how his developments and research are changing the way we care for older adults.”

“Hospital systems were designed 50 years ago when the average Canadian was 27 years old,” says Dr. Sinha. “The systems have not yet adapted to meet the needs of the growing number of older patients with increasingly complex needs. I will be discussing new effective ways to care for older adults under the banner of Acute Care for Elders “ACE” Strategy, a collaborative aimed at supporting elder-friendly models of care and practices.”

The hospital’s annual meeting is also an opportunity to celebrate accomplishments of the past year and offer a heartfelt thank you to staff and volunteers, as well as the many partners, donors and community members dedicated to reducing stigma associated with mental illness. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Doors open at 1 p.m. with presentations beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the Waypoint Auditorium at 500 Church St., Penetanguishene. Refreshments to follow. Please RSVP to www.surveymonkey.com/r/3YSZCB3 or 705.549.3181 ext. 2073.
