Behavioural Support Services
BSS GraphicBehavioural Support Services is the North Simcoe Muskoka LHIN model of the provincial Behaviour Supports Ontario Project.

Behavioural Supports Ontario exists to enhance services for older people with responsive behaviours linked to cognitive impairments, people at risk of the same, and their caregivers; providing them with the right care, at the right time and in the right place (at home, in long-term care or elsewhere).

The province made a $40 million investment to allow local health service providers to hire new staff – nurses, personal support workers and other health care providers – and to train them in the specialized skills necessary to provide quality care to these residents and clients.

As one of four “early adopter” LHINs, North Simcoe Muskoka has worked with a group of local stakeholders to develop its LHIN-wide Action Plan. The stakeholder planning group contributed to the development of a model and an implementation plan in the North Simcoe Muskoka LHIN that aligns with the provincial Behavioural Supports Ontario Framework. The NSM Action Plan describes how the local BSO investment will be used across the system.
