Lorraine Smith is Vice President, Corporate Services at Waypoint, a position she has held since early 2007, at which time it was known as Assistant Administrator.
At the start of her career, Ms Smith worked as a nurse with the Victorian Order of Nurses and then in public health before turning to more administrative roles.
Ms Smith worked as a program and policy analyst for Manitoba Health and was Assistant to the Senior Vice President of Operations at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. In 1990, she moved to Ontario and became the Executive Director of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), Barrie – Simcoe Branch.
After eleven years at CMHA, Ms Smith assumed the role of Coordinator of the Central East Region Mental Health Implementation Task Force for a two year period, followed by private consulting work with the Simcoe York District Health Council, until August, 2003.
Ms Smith joined Waypoint in 2003 as a Clinical Liaison Officer. She then acted briefly as the Forensic Operations Manager before accepting her current position. In addition, throughout much of 2008, she provided operational leadership to the hospital’s efforts to prepare for divestment from the Crown in December 2008. Ms Smith, along with the organization’s former administrator received an Achievement, Commitment and Excellence Award from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care for their exceptional efforts.
Ms Smith holds both Bachelor of Nursing (1983) and Master of Business Administration (1987) degrees from the University of Manitoba. She is a Certified Health Executive with the Canadian College of Health Leaders.
