Waypoint's Organizational Development department offers a variety of on-site, computer and web-based, and telemedicine learning opportunities. The department also facilitates the mentorship program. A variety of supports are available to staff committed to personal professional development and life-long learning.

In 2009 Waypoint announced a comprehensive strategic plan to create a formal research and academics centre. Dr. Howard Barbaree joined Waypoint as Vice-President of Research and Academics in September, 2009. Dr. Barbaree, an internationally recognized research psychologist, is the former head of the Law and Mental Health Program, Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto.

On Mar. 11, 2011, Waypoint welcomed Dean Catharine Whiteside, University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine, Vice Provost, Relations with Healthcare Institutions along with stakeholders, community partners, patients, students and staff and volunteers to launch the formal agreement between the two organizations.

Waypoint also has a number of successful partnerships with post-secondary institutions including Georgian College and McMaster University.
