Mark Henick

Mark’s TEDx talk, “Why We Choose Suicide”, is among the most watched in the world with over 4 million views. His story of searching for “the man in the light brown jacket” who saved his life from a teenage suicide attempt went viral around world.

Informed by his direct experience with stigma and the mental health care system, Mark has dedicated his life from an early age to opening minds and creating change. He is the principal and CEO of Strategic Mental Health Solutions, a boutique consulting firm that specializes in helping organizations and individuals to move strategically from basic mental health awareness toward meaningful, measurable action.

“These days, conversations about mental health and illness are happening in communities and corporations across the country, a strong message that we are all on this journey together, says Carol Lambie, Waypoint president and CEO. “But even with all the advances in treatment, Canada’s suicide rate hasn’t moved. Eleven people will end their lives by suicide today. Mark Henick’s message continues to bring awareness to this topic so we can all work together to make a difference.”

The hospital’s annual meeting is also an opportunity to celebrate accomplishments of the past year and offer a heartfelt thank you to staff and volunteers, as well as the many partners, donors and community members dedicated to reducing stigma associated with mental illness. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Doors open at 1 p.m. with presentations beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the Waypoint Auditorium at 500 Church St., Penetanguishene. Refreshments to follow. Please RSVP to goo.gl/8XXuYT or 705.549.3181, ext. 2073.
