Walk-in counselling services now available 5 days a week across the region

No matter where you are in North Simcoe Muskoka, walk-in counselling services are now available five days a week thanks to funding from the North Simcoe Muskoka Local Health Integration Network (NSM LHIN) and the province’s 10-year mental health and addictions strategy. Walk-in Counselling Clinic

“We are so pleased the funding has allowed us to expand this service across the NSM LHIN,” said Michelle Bergin, Executive Director at Catholic Family Services of Simcoe County. “One of the goals in the provincial strategy is to identify mental health and addictions problems early and intervene, having more access to walk-in counselling services in our region helps meet that goal.”

The clinic, once only available in Collingwood and Midland, now includes services in Orillia, Barrie and Bracebridge, the first of its kind in Muskoka. Clinic times vary in each community and a combination of day and evening hours are available. Services can be accessed in any one of the five communities; regardless of where people live and no appointment is necessary.

The single-session counselling sessions will provide individuals age 12 and up, families and couples who are not in immediate crisis, opportunities for immediate problem solving and therapeutic interventions as well as assistance connecting with other services as required. Service for youth under 12 is available in Collingwood only. Common concerns include depression and anxiety, relationship issues, sexual abuse/assault, stress, substance abuse and teen issues.

“One session is often enough to help someone set a course of action, as well as learn how and where to access helpful community resources as they move forward”, said Ruth Cameron, Waypoint’s Director of Outpatient Services.

Please join the participating agencies during the first week of June to celebrate the expansion. Each clinic will host an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony just prior to opening of the clinic:

Monday June 1st in Orillia at 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Tuesday June 2nd in Midland at 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
Wednesday June 3rd in Bracebridge at 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Thursday June 4th in Barrie at 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Friday June 5th in Collingwood at 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

The service is provided in partnership by Canadian Mental Health Association Muskoka-Parry Sound, Canadian Mental Health Association Simcoe County, Catholic Family Services of Simcoe County, CHIGAMIK Community Health Centre, New Path Youth and Family Services of Simcoe County, Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care and Wendat Community Programs.
