UPDATE: The OPP has concluded its investigation and safely disposed of the suspicious
package. The Code Black and Code Grey
are now all clear. The hospital is
returning to normal operations. THANK
YOU TO ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND PATIENCE.
The Southern Georgian Bay OPP is on site at Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care in Penetanguishene investigating a suspicious package at an out-building which has been safely evacuated. The package is not in the vicinity of the hospital’s patient care and other hospital buildings. Waypoint has initiated a Code Black and Code Grey with all staff and patients sheltering within their programs and offices, and no one leaving the hospital at this time. The OPP Explosives Disposal Unit is assisting and the hospital is following police directions.
The OPP and Waypoint ask the public, visitors and the media to please avoid the area and obey local traffic detours in the area of the hospital. Waypoint staff arriving for a shift will be directed to a safe location.
The safety of everyone at Waypoint is our utmost priority and safety measures based on protocol were immediately initiated.
We will share further information as updates are available. Your patience is appreciated.
