John Barrett Hamilton
John Barrett-Hamilton was appointed to the Waypoint Board of Directors in November 2024.
He brings a wealth of experience to the Board, having gained board experience as a Director, Vice-Chair and Chair for three separate corporations over the past 10 years.

His last term was from 2018-2020. He previously served as Chair of the former Mental Health Centre Penetanguishene and then Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care from 2008 until 2010.

He was a Director/Vice-Chair and Chair of the Board of Directors for the Penetanguishene General Hospital from 2003 to 2008 years.

As well, he served as Chair of the Board of Directors for the Martyrs’ Shrine in Midland from 2003 – 2005 and again from 2012 – 2016. During this time, he was also a Director on the Drayton Entertainment Board of Directors for a period of 8 months.

John has chaired Waypoint’s Executive, Governance, Resource, Property, and Joint Conference committees, and has served on the Planning, and Public Library committees for the Town of Penetanguishene.

John graduated from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and English. John’s career path included teaching high school at Loyola High School in Montreal, working for the Toronto YMCA as a Detached Street Worker and Counsellor, and The City of North York as a Manager of Youth Programs. John was appointed General Manager for the Huronia Historical Parks, Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, responsible for two Ontario historic tourist attractions: Saint Marie Among the Hurons in Midland and Discovery Harbour in Penetanguishene. John held this position for 18 years until his retirement in 2001.
