This year has been a challenging time for North Simcoe Youth and their families, with many experiencing financial insecurity. On October 9th, staff from the North Simcoe Youth Wellness Hub (NSYWH), in partnership with Youth Wellness Hubs Ontario, will be delivering 32 thanksgiving turkey dinners, complete with all the trimmings, to local families in need.

Various schools and community partners were engaged to identify North Simcoe families with youth aged 12-25 to share in this special event.

“Our most important relationships are established and strengthened over meals,” says Kelly McLaughlin, NSYWH Youth, Family and Community Engagement Lead. “The benefits of this thanksgiving dinner go far beyond the food itself by providing an opportunity for families to get together, create opportunities for meaningful conversation, and enjoy a delicious meal.”

To support the assembly of the meal, a how-to video will be posted to the NSYWH Instagram and Facebook channels. Everyone is encouraged to follow along – but most importantly the participating youth to develop important life skills and show their creative side while learning!

Many thanks to the Real Canadian Superstore Midland who assisted with the purchase of the meal components, and Jordan Abram from Waypoint’s Food Services for sourcing and storing the turkey’s until they were ready to be distributed.
