Research Analyst

Laura Justine Chouinard joined the Waypoint Research Institute in Spring 2024. She completed her undergraduate degree (BA) in Psychology and Behavioral Neuroscience at McGill University. She later pursued a Master of Science (Hons) in Psychology of Global Mobility, Inclusion and Diversity in Society (Global-MINDS), an Erasmus Mundus conjoint program offered by the University of Limerick and ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon. Her thesis focused on the way women were represented in the discourse on climate change in the media and the associated psychosocial impacts.

Laura Justine has experience working with marginalized populations, including refugees, asylum-seekers and migrants. She spent 6 months in a refugee camp in Greece where she worked in project management and coordination, as well as provided language courses to beneficiaries. She has also worked as a mental health counselor, assisting individuals with schizophrenia in their day-to-day lives. In recent years, she has worked on various research projects and is currently working with the RENARD team in Montreal on an evaluation framework for knowledge mobilization strategies. In her role at Waypoint, Laura Justine is working on the national action plan on mental health and criminal justice with Dr. Christopher Canning and Nicole Adams.

The mainstream of gender in climate interventions, intercultural contact and communication between migrants and settled communities, climate anxiety and climate resistance in young people.
