Dr. Supuneet Bismil joins Waypoint as Medical Director, Outpatient Services
After an extensive search process, we are pleased to announce that Dr. Supuneet Bismil has been appointed to the position of Medical Director, Outpatient Services, effective September 7, 2021. Waypoint’s board of directors approved Dr. Bismil’s appointment to this new position on June 17, 2021. Dr. Bismil’s focus will include collaboratively building partnerships to enhance access to care and transitions in care within Waypoint and regionally through our Ontario Health Team.
Dr. Bismil joins us from Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, where she is currently a Staff Psychiatrist providing comprehensive psychiatric care including inpatient, outpatient, consultation-liaison, and emergency psychiatric services and ECT. Previously, Dr. Bismil served as the Medical Director, Community Mental Health at St. Joseph’s Care Group in Thunder Bay, where she led a portfolio that included the full spectrum of outpatient, community outreach, and collaborative/integrated mental health services, including for people living with severe mental illness. In this role, Dr. Bismil achieved improvements in wait times and flow, as well as measurement of health outcomes and optimization of clinical learner experiences.
Dr. Bismil is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Northern Ontario School of Medicine and has contributed to capacity building initiatives such as Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes).

Dr. Bismil has a proven track record of leading program development and quality improvement initiatives that move the needle on metrics that matter to service users and staff alike. She is committed to inter-professional collaboration and has a strong action orientation. Dr. Bismil earned her Medical Degree from the University of Pune and completed her residency at the University of Ottawa.
