Get Your Mental Health in Motion smashes goal, raises more than $30,000

With a week full of wellness, mindfulness, music and physical activity, Waypoint’s Get Your Mental Health in Motion raised more than $30,000 to support the creation of a Child, Youth and Family Waiting Room at the Community Health Hub.

This year has not been easy - 78 per cent of Canadians say their mental health has been impacted by COVID-19 (Ipsos, 2020). Supporting the mental wellbeing of our community is critical, and the hospital’s annual fundraiser offered an opportunity to improve your mental health and support the mental wellbeing of local children and youth at the same time. In total, nearly 40 local businesses, municipalities and partners came on board for this event, with every dollar raised supporting this new space for children and families seeking mental health support.

“The expansion of Waypoint’s Family, Child and Youth Mental Health Program will help to improve access to mental healthcare for children and families across our region”, says Dr. Rob Meeder, Pediatrician, Waypoint Medical Director, Family, Child and Youth Mental Health. “The creation of the Child and Family Waiting Room will help them feel welcome and comfortable while they await their appointment, and improve the overall mental health care experience. Families and children can be under a lot of stress, so this will be one more way to make that experience better.”

“Get Your Mental Health in Motion is more than just a fundraiser for our hospital,” said Carol Lambie, Waypoint President and CEO. “When we come together as a community, put people first, and support our collective mental well-being, it’s amazing the difference we can make.”

The 2021 Get Your Mental Health in Motion took place during Mental Health Week – May 3 to 9 – with a goal of raising $25,000. To date, our supporters have raised $31,000 with the help of our title sponsors Brissette Concrete Forming Inc. and Midland Honda!
